This link presents an overview of the stereotypical image of librarians in society.

It's an interesting site-- looking at how librarians are portrayed in the media, how we perceive ourselves, and what we need to do in order to break the stereotype...
"Are we responsible for our own image? Is there anything we can do about it? Remember, although it may not seem altogether fair, we are, ultimately, responsible for our own image, our own reputation. Only we, as individuals, can alter this rather dismal portrayal. We have to move beyond the bun, and show the world there is more to us than our perceived stereotype." (Hall, 1992)

Hi Melissa,
I like your Blog very much. You gave a lot of interesting websites and links to information about librarian image (especially in movies). Good job!

Hall has a good point, but it takes an awful lot of work to break stereotypes once they've permeated society. I'm not saying we shouldn't try--just that we all have our work cut out for us!
I congratulate you on creating a very accessible and entertaining blog. I especially loved the youtube video "conan the librarian." The links to the librarian image website was also interesting as it shows how hard it is to break stereotypes.
